8 Frame Cypress Screened Bottom Board

The bottom board forms the floor of the hive and carries the weight of every box stacked above it. Because this one's screened, it also lets air move through the colony and lets mites that fall off bees drop through instead of climbing back up.

Screened vs. Solid

Screened boards are the more common choice — the airflow helps with moisture control in humid climates and gives you an easy way to eyeball mite drop without a full alcohol wash. If you're in a colder or drier climate and want more heat retention through winter, we also carry a solid bottom board.
