The 8-Frame Completed Deep Box Kit is built from durable cypress wood and designed for the heart of the hive — where the queen lays eggs and brood is raised. Often called a brood box, brooder, or hive body, this deep box is typically placed at the bottom of the hive and rarely moved once filled. When packed with bees, brood, and honey, a deep box can weigh over 60 pounds, making sturdy, long-lasting construction essential.
This 8-frame cypress Langstroth hive provides everything you need to build a strong foundation for your colony. The deep box serves as the primary brood chamber, giving the queen ample space to lay and the workers room to raise new bees.
Each complete kit includes:
You can order your kit unassembled, assembled, or assembled and painted. When assembled by our team, we use Titebond wood glue and staples to ensure your equipment stays secure and durable. The painted option includes one coat of primer and a finish of UV-resistant white paint for long-term protection.
Our cypress wood is naturally rot-resistant and durable enough to last for decades, even without paint. Each piece is milled to a smooth finish and designed for a perfect fit. To ensure the best performance, we use precision-cut frames and double-waxed foundation sheets, which contain twice the amount of beeswax found on standard foundation.
We made the switch to heavier beeswax coatings after noticing that bees were slow to build comb on thinner coatings commonly found on the market. Since adopting double-waxed foundation, we—and our customers—have seen significantly faster comb building and happier colonies.
