This 8-frame cypress medium box is the honey super that stacks above your brood boxes. Medium boxes run lighter than deeps when full, and in the 8-frame size, that means a box you can lift comfortably even at peak honey flow.
An 8-frame deep full of honey is already lighter than a 10-frame deep — go medium instead and you cut the weight again. It's a smaller harvest per box, but you'll be doing a lot less heavy lifting at extraction time.
Add supers during nectar flow (spring through summer) as your colony fills existing frames. Watch frame fill rather than the calendar — adding one too early just gives the colony more space to guard for no benefit.
