The 5-Frame Inner Cover acts as the ceiling inside your hive, sitting just above the top box and below the outer cover. This important piece of hive equipment helps regulate airflow and moisture while preventing the top cover from being sealed down by the bees. Built for both function and durability, our inner cover makes hive inspections and maintenance smoother while promoting better ventilation and hive health.
This 5-Frame Inner Cover is designed to sit between the uppermost hive box and the outer cover, acting as the hive’s ceiling. It provides bees with the right balance of protection, ventilation, and accessibility while preventing the telescoping cover from being sealed shut with propolis.
The center cutout of the inner cover is precision-sized to fit a 70mm mason jar lid, making it ideal for feeding or ventilation. If your cover includes an oval-shaped opening, it can also accommodate a porter bee escape, a tool that allows bees to exit the super during honey harvesting without reentering. The opening also helps release moisture and maintain humidity balance within the hive, which contributes to overall colony health.
Each inner cover is fully assembled with Titebond wood glue, staples, and nails to ensure durability and stability. The outer rim is made from rot-resistant cypress wood, while the interior panel is crafted from high-quality plywood that resists swelling and warping from humidity.
This cover pairs perfectly with our 5 - Frame Cypress Telescoping cover, making inspections easier and protecting your hive from the elements.
For a full setup, you can find this inner cover included in our 5 Frame Beekeeping Kit, or you can purchase it individually as part of your own customized hive setup. All components in our 5-frame kits are available individually at the same price, so you can tailor your hive equipment to your needs.
