As the base of your colony, this component is built for strength and durability. Made from rot-resistant cypress, it’s designed to withstand years of use and exposure to the elements while helping beekeepers maintain proper airflow and hive health.

Detailed Description

This 5- Frame solid bottom board serves as the structural base of your hive, supporting all boxes and frames stacked above. It is designed to provide a strong, level foundation for your colony while helping regulate internal hive conditions.

Unlike screened bottom boards, this model has a solid wooden floor that keeps drafts out and gives beekeepers better control of airflow within the hive. The solid design also helps maintain stable temperatures during cooler months and provides a sturdy surface for hive feeders or other equipment.

Each bottom board is available fully assembled, using Titebond Glue, staples, and nails, so it’s ready to use right out of the box. The entrance opening is carefully cut to provide bees with a single entry and exit point that can easily accommodate entrance reducers or feeders.

It is designed to work perfectly with our small hive beetle tray that seals completely, keeping bees out of the oil or diatomaceous earth in the pan. We redesigned our bottom boards to work perfectly with our Small Hive Beetle Oil Pan Trap. 

Because bottom boards sit closest to the ground, they’re often the first part of a hive to face moisture or decay. That’s why ours are made from rot-resistant cypress wood, a naturally durable material that stands up to outdoor exposure and resists rot far better than pine. This means less maintenance and longer-lasting equipment.

You can also choose to have your bottom board primed and painted with premium, UV-resistant exterior paint to extend its lifespan even further.
