Running fewer frames than your box is designed for sounds counterintuitive, but it's a known technique for getting deeper, more even comb. This handheld spacer sets 7 frames at even spacing inside an 8-frame box, giving bees more room per frame to draw comb out further than they would at standard spacing.
This spacing method works best after bees have already drawn out the comb. Using it on new, undrawn foundation can lead to uneven or crooked comb, since there's nothing yet to guide the bees' spacing.
