Jamaica Flag 🇯🇲

3' x 5' polyester Jamaica Flag with two grommets, double-stitched top and bottom edges, and a triple-stitched fly edge to reduce fraying.

✍️ The Design: Adopted on Independence Day, August 6, 1962, this design was chosen through a national bipartisan contest as the island gained full independence from the United Kingdom.

The layout features a gold saltire (an X running diagonally corner to corner) that divides the flag into four compartments...green on the top and bottom, and black on the hoist and fly sides.

The original symbolism stated that "hardships there are, but the land is green and the sun shineth," which was later updated to focus on national growth and identity.

⬛️ The black sections represent the strength and creativity of the Jamaican people who overcome hardships.
🟨 The gold saltire stands for the natural wealth of the island and the golden sunshine.
🟩 The green fields represent hope and the island's lush agriculture. 

Flag Nerd Fact: the flag of Jamaica is currently the only national flag in the world that does not contain any red, white, or blue on it!

🇯🇲 Days of Celebration: Jamaicans fly this flag on Independence Day (August 6th), Emancipation Day (August 1st), and National Heroes Day (the third Monday in October).
