Assembling frames one at a time with a hammer and a prayer works fine for a handful — past 20 or so, it turns into a lot of wasted motion. This jig holds the frame pieces square while you nail them, so every frame comes out true instead of racked.
If you're assembling more than 20 frames at a time, this pays for itself in time saved. For a handful of frames, it's not necessary — hand-assembly works fine at small scale.
