3' x 5' polyester redesigned Florida Flag with two grommets, double-stitched top and bottom edges, and a triple-stitched fly edge to reduce fraying.
✍️ The Design: For our "Better State Flag" series, the flag of Florida just needed a few simple tweaks. By first removing the overly detailed state seal (a classic offense in the hall of bad flag design) we replaced it with a simple sun. Boom, an instantly recognizable flag for the Sunshine State that you can actually read from more than five feet away.
The core layout retains the historic red saltire (the diagonal X pattern) on a crisp white field, which was originally added to the flag under Governor Francis P. Fleming in 1900 so it wouldn’t look like a blank white surrender flag when hanging limp on a pole. The new central sun anchors the design, celebrating Florida's famous climate while preserving the classic aesthetic of the state, which joined the United States in 1845.
