✍️ The Design: The Wyoming state flag was originally created by Casper-based artist Verna Keays for a 1916 Daughters of the American Revolution competition and officially adopted on January 31, 1917.

This clean, streamlined version of the Wyoming flag (commonly seen around the state and often seen as souvenirs) removes the seal, letting the bold American bison silhouette take center stage where it belongs.

The layout features a deep blue field framed by a white inner border and a red outer border. The blue represents the wide-open skies and distant mountains of the Equality State. The white symbolizes purity and uprightness, and the red stands for the Native Americans who first inhabited the land as well as the blood of the pioneers. The central bison represents the native fauna and the strength of the state, which gained United States statehood in 1890.
