The 70 mm Gold Mason Jar Lid fits the most widely used mason jar thread finish — the 70G-450 regular mouth. That's the thread size on our 8 oz, 16 oz, and 32 oz Glass Mason Jars, as well as Ball, Kerr, and other standard canning jar brands. The lid is single-piece gold metal with a plastisol liner pressed into the interior. Screw it on, the liner compresses against the jar rim, and you have a sealed container.
There are two style options here, and the difference matters depending on what you're doing with the jar:
The Button Lid has a raised metal button in the center. During water bath canning, the button depresses as the jar cools and a vacuum seal forms — that depression is how you know the seal worked. If you're doing any heated canning (jams, preserves, processed honey), use the Button Lid.
The No-Button Lid has a flat top with no button. It's designed for cold or room-temperature bottling — exactly what honey filling involves. You don't heat honey in the jar after filling, so the vacuum-seal indicator isn't needed. The plastisol liner still seals the jar completely when tightened, just without the button mechanism. Most beekeepers bottling honey use the No-Button Lid.
Both styles are available in all pack sizes. If you're not sure which to order, the No-Button Lid is the right choice for honey. The Button Lid is the right choice for canning.
